The Elmont Memorial Library is proud to introduce the first Fully Automated Self Service Circulation System in Nassau County. Beginning November 25, 2014, the Library will integrate RFID technology into their systems, pioneering its use for contemporary library functions.
The massive circulation desk that once encompassed the front section of the Library will now be replaced by four completely self-serve check-out stations and two return stations. Patrons will be able to easily scan their card, stack the books of their choosing onto the new machines, and be finished with ease, allowing the staff to escape the desk and spend more time with Patrons.
Returned books will be easily fed into one of the two return stations and automatically sorted to their correct destinations without taking up precious staff time. Overdue books can be paid by cash or credit at the machine.
Materials are now returned to the shelves quicker and more efficiently. This new self-service circulation system will be in effect for most materials borrowed from the Library from all of the departments.
