Volunteers gather to beautify Valley Stream State Park

On Saturday May 3rd 2014, a team of volunteers gathered together to host Valley Stream State Park’s 1st annual “I Love My Park” Day. “I Love My Park Day” is a statewide initiative to enhance & bring visibility to New York State parks. Local young adult leadership groups & community partners joined Assemblywoman Michaelle Solages for a spirited day of service, which included:

Stream cleanup
Collection of litter while walking the stream bed and surrounding areas.

A new playground unveiled
Features an interactive “Sights & Sounds” Water display for young children.

Constructing new bird houses
A nice, cozy home for our feathered friends to relax in during the inclement weather.

Trail pruning
Widening trailways and clearing branches that may be blocking the paths.

“I Love My Park Day” is a statewide event organized by Parks & Trails New York, in partnership with the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, together with local Friends groups, to celebrate and enhance New York’s parks and historic sites and bring visibility to the entire park system and its needs.
