At its meeting on June 5, 2015, the Sewanhaka Board of Education appointed Kevin Dougherty as Principal of Elmont Memorial High School. The Board of Education and Dr. Ralph Ferrie, Superintendent of Schools, are enthusiastic about his appointment and anticipate that Mr. Dougherty will use his leadership skills and experience in education to ensure his success in this position.
Mr. Dougherty is presently serving as Principal at Promise Academy, in Harlem, New York. Prior to his position as Principal, Mr. Dougherty served as Assistant Principal for three years and as a Mathematics teacher. He also served as a High School Staff Developer at Wissahickon Public School District in Ambler, Pennsylvania. Mr. Dougherty is the founder of Celebrating All Students’ Achievement (CASA), a multi-pronged program created to help eliminate cultural and achievement gaps among minority students.
He received his Bachelor of Science, Special Education, at Pennsylvania State University and his Master of Science, Educational Administration at Gwynedd-Mercy College.
The District is very fortunate to have an administrator of Mr. Dougherty’s caliber serve as the Principal of Elmont Memorial High School. He will officially assume his new position on July 15, 2015.
